WIIKWEMKOONG—Phones across Manitoulin rang out with an emergency alert just moments ago, alerting people in Wiikwemkoong to shelter in place as police search for an “armed and dangerous” individual.
The Wiikwemkoong Board of Education (WBE) has also issued a ‘hold and secure’ for all of its schools and the hub centre “out of an abundance of caution,” a post from WBE states.
The emergency alert states “The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating an armed and dangerous person in Wiikwemkoong. Lock all doors and windows. Notify police of any suspicious person. Please monitor local media for details.”
