Upcoming dance seeks to raise funds for hospice suites

GORE BAY—A dance will be held in Gore Bay next month to raise additional funds for the hospice suites at the Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) hospitals in Little Current and Mindemoya.

“We (Carry on Hope group) will be holding a dance on May 19 at the Gore Bay Community Hall, with funds going toward the hospice rooms,” said Valinda Fogal last week. She pointed out that among those who made donations to the hospice suites was the Gore Bay Rotary Club, and that the suites are getting put to good use by Island residents.

Each suite is outfitted with a patient area, a family space with kitchenette, a separate washroom and shower facility and is decorated in a very home-like environment. Patients who are assessed through standard criteria as needing and qualifying for hospice care have access to the new suites.

Mrs. Fogal explained, “the patients are being looked after very well with the hospice suites in place. The funds being raised from the dance will go toward things that are needed by families staying there, such as pots and pans, pictures, and bedding for the pull-out bed; things to make family members more comfortable.”

“The Carry On Hope group is putting on the dance in memory of Theresa Rideout and the funds raised at the dance will go toward the hospice suites at the hospitals,” added Ms. Fogal.
