GORE BAY—A trial date has been set for the Wikwemikong Way hit and run case of Darin Noel Peltier, the accused driver in the November 2, 2014 accident that left a man hospitalized with life threatening injuries.
As was reported previously, on November 2, 2014 at 2:40 am, David Andrew (Andy) Oshkabewisens of Wiikwemkoong was struck by a truck with the driver fleeing the scene and leaving Mr. Oshkabewisens with life threatening injuries along the side of Wikwemikong Way.
Mr. Oshkabewisens was transferred to the Manitoulin Health Centre in Little Current from where he was airlifted to Health Sciences North in Sudbury. He remained there, in a coma, until December of that year.
The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) Acting Detective Inspector Dave Robinson, arrested Noel Darin Peltier on Sunday, November 9, 2014 and later charged Mr. Peltier was attempted murder and failing to remain at the scene. Mr. Peltier has since had his charges reduced to fail to stop, offer assistance; cause bodily harm; criminal negligence of a motorized vehicle causing bodily harm; and operation of a motorized vehicle in a manner that is dangerous to the public causing bodily harm.
The trial date of Mr. Peltier has been set for September 25 to 29, 2017 in Gore Bay court.
