GORE BAY—The Inn at Gore Bay is now under new management, and the couple that has taken over is familiar to most people in the area. Alberto and Tammy Joseph are excited to be taking over the management duties at the Inn.
“We are really excited and looking forward to the opportunity to get things going,” said Ms. Joseph in an interview the Recorder had with the couple this past Monday. The couple have been living in Kagawong almost three years (as of this upcoming February 28).
“We came to visit the Island on a vacation in August 2016 and fell in love with Manitoulin,” said Mr. Joseph.
“Six months later we moved here so that we could work here, raise our children, who are still in school, and take in as much of the Island as we can,” Ms. Joseph added.
The Joseph family had moved from Ajax to live on Manitoulin. Ms. Joseph will be well known to a lot of people in the area as she has worked at the Manitoulin Lodge Nursing Home in Gore Bay since the end of 2017.
Mr. Joseph has been a chef for over 20 years. Over the years he has worked as chef for many restaurants, such as the ClubLink Golf Course-Russell Hill Stouffville public course.
Along with work, “we have been raising our kids, who are still in school,” said Mr. Joseph. “We have been enjoying the beauty of the Island, and it is much more comfortable and safe here compared to the city, with a lot less traffic.”
After being offered the management duties at The Inn, “Ms. Joseph and I talked about how great an opportunity it would be to run the business.”
While The Inn at Gore Bay is open year round, “we hope to get the restaurant running in May, at the same time as the Island and the Chi-Cheemaun ferry season is opening up,” said Mr. Joseph. The couple is working on the final dates for the opening of the restaurant.
While he is still developing the menu for the restaurants, Mr. Joseph said, “we want to be open all-year round and be the type of place everyone will want to visit and enjoy a great meal.”
With renovations being carried out this winter on the main banquet hall in The Inn, “we will be able to hold weddings and other functions,” said Mr. Joseph.
“We are really looking forward to working with the town and its residents,” he added.
“We are really excited about having this opportunity,” said Ms. Joseph.
