Tehkummah Talk & Times

Tara, Ray, Jacob and Skylar got back from Thornbury on Thursday evening the 17th. They stayed at Kim and Kathy’s house while they went zip lining, biking and walking treetops in the Blue Mountain area. From all reports and despite Jacob’s skinned knee and bruises, they had a great time. They met K and K’s new little kitten Ray, brought me in some mushrooms, they are doing extremely well. I suppose the damp weather helps. He had two big boxes overflowing.

Tehkummah could have blown sky high! I was surprised to see “Gas Leak” sign on the post office door! I would have hated to lose my bills and advertisements!

Isobel Harry, thanks for the nice article on the township. It was great travelling with you. I don’t know what happened to my article a couple of weeks back re “grave yard” Michael’s Bay, because it read like it was in South Baymouth.

Wednesday night! It’s almost like trying to find a place close enough to park for fireworks in South Baymouth but tonight the waterfront was booming (and the rain held off) with sight seers live music, and antiques …….and I’m not talking of the mostly older folks. What a wonderful display of antique cars; a lot of them with their proud owners to tell the story. Barb  (nee Mandie) had a car there she stated this was the best show on the Island this year! I met up with Jane and Bruce Johnson again; they were our guests on Sunday for Fairview’s 120th (1915 Ford. I got it right this time). Also met these nice folk from Ariss, Ontario. He came through the door of the hall today while we were playing cribbage with one of my books for me to sign, so I had to meet his wife. Tom and Bea Collins had their daughter Cindy with them and pretty granddaughter Cora. Nice folks I get to meet. Also tonight I saw Don and Marlene Coultis. Clark was with them, and grandson Gage.

We went to Carol’s and Earl’s for supper. Joan and Borden were there, got to meet Bordie’s son Vic and his wife Cinda. Sat and people-watched a bitparked in “my dad’s 5” front of us; loved the car and it’s colour. Cal dumped me out, and here I write!

Cribbage: 5 1/2 tables today. Thanks, everyone, for the good lunch. Today the high hand was Doris, 21; first, Graham and Sheila, 922; second, Doris and Melissa, 919; third, Mary and Jean, 916; low, Lyle and Hugh, 838; door, Cal and Patrysha.

Looking up the Bay was the most beautiful pastel half rainbow, Wednesday evening. Lots of puddles here at home. It sure must have rained hard, looked like storm/snow clouds! Geese flying formation south already?

Rick and Lori Gordon are back from Calgary. They attended a wedding, Rick’s niece, and I hear they met up with my grandson Kris Hall in Canmore.

Bid euchre results, Tuesday afternoon, 1 pm, August 22, lost the list! Pat Boyle was first;Dave James, second. (I think?)

Euchre, regular 6 tables; ladies’ high, Florence, 78; lone hands, Linda, 3; ladies’ low, Barb, 43; men’s high, Simon, 77; men’s lone hands, John, 3; men’s low, Ann, 35; door, Dave. K.P. duty, Mary and Floyd, thanks.

Friend Wayne Bruckholder from Brechin, Ontario dropped in for the annual visit. He keeps up on the news by my column. He’s staying at Fullfords cottages, Providence Bay.

Last week for the Garden Shed and the summer we didn’t have. I’ve spent a few enjoyable hours in food and flowers! Thank you so much Laurie, Gail, Yogi and Amanda.

Nancy Delalbio popped in on Thursday asking about Carter Bay. She was planning on picking sand cherries; I said the only place I’d ever picked them was Prov shoreline years ago. She says none there now. Friday she stopped in again with Jackie Grant, whom I hadn’t seen for years, reminding me she used to fill in as church organist back when!? Oh, and Nancy didn’t yet get the sand cherries. But Mum made jam today, gooseberry. Ray and Skylar picked some. I think there’s still lots, darn it; there’s much I can’t do anymore.

Hey, Tara saw the cougar on Monday at Elgin Martin’s hill.

You know this issue on spraying in our township. It should be on the books. I/we voted against it when I was on council in the late 80s. I thought it was a bylaw!

The market was busy on Friday, checked out Susan Morton’s “Sassy Bling.” It was nice to say hello to Kelly.

Got a call this a.m. trying to find out what I didn’t see across the road from me here in downtown Tehkummah. I didn’t hear anything either, but Ward’s store was broken into. Neighbourhood Watch, though not current, was working well. I haven’t been inside too long, doing a bit of garden cleanup. Kept away from folks today with my weepy eye and sniffy nose! Hey, friends, hello to you all. Keep well, keep happy.

Mum and I had breakfast at the Garden Shed on Saturday morning.

Ray participated in the cooking category at the Deer Show in Assiginack on Sunday. Skylar spent the weekend with her friend in Little Current. She spent last week at horse camp, Honora Bay, did well in her test.

Well I thought so, Great-Gram’s perspective.
