Tehkummah Talk and Times

June McDougall gave a special prayer and tribute to the RCMP Moncton, for their loss, for the police and firefighters, for all who put their lives on the line to keep us secure in any way, shapes or form. Thanks from me too!

After eleven, I just got home from Susan and Simon’s where Mollie and John are staying overnight. John was tired. He just got off shift, home and headed for the Island this Tuesday morning. I checked out the farm while there. Simon has built some great areas for their pets, the duck is sitting on eight eggs. Pauline and Wayne drove Mum and I home. It was a nice visit.

Earlier today I drove Mum and Audrie down to Bev’s for our Sr. UCW meeting. Noreen, Pauline, Joan and Lorna our (now president) discussing our dinner out and our Strawberry Social on July 19. We had a delicious lunch served afterwards.

My time flies too quickly when I’m working outside. The morning just disappeared while I was transplanting and potting. I had to run to get ready for the meeting.

Rob Harkes dropped by for a little visit this morning too. I like his perspective on politics?

At our Wednesday cribbage there were five tables. A great bunch of card players. Pat Novak, Mum (made buns) and I made lunch. We had two high hands of 24, Ted and Del. First place, Janet and Glenn, 957; second place, Lori and Rick, 929; third, Gib and Florence, 912; low, Audrie and Del beat us out by three points, 856; door prize, Florence and Cal.

Lots of beautiful Iris blooming and scenting up the air. “Oh my God,” I exclaim, as at least two hundred wild geese noisily interrupt my writing here. Wow!

Somehow after Susan and Simon’s birthday dinner out at the Happy Moose the topics seemed to focus on agility, ability and arthritis! Must be a sign of the times? We had birthday cake and ice cream at Pauline and Wayne’s before a game of Tiki. Nevertheless a very quiet but very nice birthday party. Incidentally Susan won, and it was “her” birthday day Election Day. Strange but people who had only been in Tehkummah two months had voting privileges. But Mum and I who have lived here forever had to sign our life away to be able to vote? Must have been costly too, with two extra people at every polling station. Although come to think of it, it’s kind of like getting a fresh water Newfie to change a light bulb! (Is my column called social networking?) (or did it used to be?)

Been a lot of skunks lately. In my backyard and at cribbage games! Tara, Skylar and Poppy had a close encounter. Shiloh, Tara’s cat, got well sprayed last week.

I hope all you father’s had a happy Father’s Day.

Cal did a dentist out of business last week!

Friday morning made two rhubarb custard pies, one apple, and some onion muffins and cinnamon rolls.

How was your Friday the 13th? Any black cats cross your path, anything bad happen? Hope not!

I’m watching another little wren this morning trying to move into the already occupied nine room condo. There are nesting materials hanging out of four rooms. It’s kind of like a palace for one small bird. Last week when a Bluebird investigated it he/she was not encouraged at all to rent. What’s the point having all those rooms go to waste?

Mindemoya businesses getting a new look: Manitoulin Chrysler, a new roof and a new look front; a nice pergola over the Roosterant, lots of flowers. Now if they’d just get some stop lights on that busy corner.

Mum whomped me good today at cribbage. She got so many 16 hands (compared to my 2s). One very smelly game!

As I drove into the yard today a black fox streaked across the road from Ward’s side down through my yard. Beautiful creature.

The first part of the Wiky road over the fields are showy with hundreds of honeysuckle bushes shading from white to pinks. And, of course, I hope there are lots of hummingibrds feeding.

We took in a yard sale. Cal is still not feeling that well. The darn summer cold. To say nothing of the chill in the air, poor little birds will freeze or blow out of the nests. The little wrens are so happy in their wooden house.

Congratulations to the election winners!

Nice to see Martin and Lynda back again after their break! Nice Father’s Day message.

At Carol’s and Earl’s on Sunday were Borden and Joan, Mary, Justin and Quillin (nice to see the guys back too), Mum and I, of course.

Who whomped who at cribbage?

We, Cal and I, had supper at Carol’s and Earl’s. Tavis and Alisha were treating Dad Dave and Sherry for supper. Lots of folks to say hello to there.

Can I ever smell Lily of the Valley strong in the air as I write. The overnight rain stirred things up I guess.

After dining out, a lot of folk took in the Down Yonder music at the hall. As always their music is great. Love that keyboard man! (Glen, Doug, Tim, Marcell, Debbie, Jeff) Happy Years song sung for a 40th anniversary. Love to watch the “Happy Dancers.” Say hello to Jim, Joanne, Carol Lee.

Met Carol and Reno’s mom from Blenheim, Ontario. Santas mom, always wanted to meet her. An aunt and uncle too. My forgetful self.

Happy birthday to Jean McCulligh and to Everett Hall upcoming birthdays.

This Monday morning we met the new boarder at Rick and Lori’s. She’s adorable. A cream Lab girl puppy wearing a red collar.

Lori has beautiful Lupins in bloom at the gate!

Ross and Susan took in a car show last week in Pennsylvania (I think?).

Coral, thank you!

Hello Terry! How’re you doing Vivian and “Keep up the good work Burt!” You okay Pat?

Nice to see Welland and Elizabeth back. The Windfall Lake folk too

Happy birthday Penny!

Kim I need a smaller birdhouse. Maybe a duplex? The wrens are still disputing ownership.

I’m going to “try” a yard sale on Thursday afternoon at 1 pm and Friday from 10 am. Lots of stuff!

Heard the American Redstarts song for the first this year (Monday, June 16).

Ray brought me a delicious mushroom on Saturday.
