LITTLE CURRENT—Here comes the big finish for the Little Current Yacht Club. With the 2017 season coming to the end, there are still plenty of things to do for a powerboater or sailor.

First on the agenda is for anyone who owns a sailboat and would like to race, LCYC Vice Commodore O.H. Rodgers will be putting on a seminar this Saturday, August 26 at 12 noon at the West Pavilion. This seminar will help long time racers and beginners alike. It will cover racing from start to finish in an easy to understand manner. This will prepare you for the next regatta weekend on September 9 and 10, which is the new race sponsored by Manitoulin Brewing Co. on Saturday and the Anchor Inn/Labatt Fall Classic on Sunday.

The LCYC has had a great year! They have had four social events, not counting the three races and the parties afterwards. The latest races were the North Channel Race Week and the Loco Beanz Coffee Cup. They also boasted a wonderful turnout for our Youth Sailing Program.

Under the guiding hand of Tracey Chapman, the program has flourished once again. Bryce Mastelko, our own homegrown Haweater instructor, assisted by Jacob Hughson, has introduced 15 first time youngsters to sailing and boating in our Taste Program as well as instructing 15 more youngsters in the more advanced courses of CANSail 1 and CANSail 2.

“We can’t thank Tracey and Bryce enough but we would be remiss if we didn’t extend our heartfelt thanks to local businesses who helped sponsor this effort as it is not an inexpensive undertaking,” a noted from the Yacht Club States. “Our thanks go out to the Expositor, Orr’s Valu-mart, Gold Pay Direct, Sam Nardi Business and Consulting, Boyle Marine, Ontario Sailing Association, Manitoulin Brewing Co., Turners of Little Current, Rain Barrel and NEMI. One more person and organization needs a call out. Roy Eaton, who hosts the Cruisers’ Net, made it a mission to raise money for our Junior Sailing program. Thank you, Roy and all the Netters who contributed to the program.”

The LCYC would like to welcome any boater or non-boater who has a watery itch to join the Club. There are special dues programs available for those who join in the fall.
