South shore marine search locates fisherman’s body

MICHAEL’S BAY—This first official weekend of the summer ended in tragedy for the family and friends of 74-year-old George Brammer of West Virginia.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that a boat belonging to Mr. Brammer, a seasonal resident of Michael’s Bay, was found anchored but vacant on Friday of last week.

The Manitoulin OPP, with the assistance of the OPP Marine Unit, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre at Trenton and the OPP helicopter began a search of the water and shoreline. The OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Team was also dispatched to assist with the search.

At approximately 3 pm on Saturday, June 27, Mr. Brammer’s body was located near the shore at Michael’s Bay. Mr. Brammer was reported to have gone fishing the day before and is recounted as an avid fisherman.

Locals, from both Michael’s Bay and South Baymouth, also assisted in the search efforts.
