Organizers gearing up for annual Frosty Cup tournament

GORE BAY—Organizers are gearing up for the annual Frosty Cup fundraising tournament being held in Gore Bay.

“We are proceeding with the third annual Frosty Cup, December 16,18,” stated Scott McDougall, one of the organizers of the event.

Proceeds derived from the tournament go toward an individual, family or group in need. “We haven’t decided yet where the funds from the tournament are going to be going this year, but it will go to a good cause.”

Mr. McDougall explained there is one new event being held in conjunction with the tournament this year. “Three or four weeks ago the Gore Bay Christmas fair and craft show was held in the community hall. Richard (Anger) asked the vendors if they would like to help out the tournament by holding a similar event in the community hall the weekend of the tournament and the response was great.”

The vendors market will take place on December 17 from 10 am to 2 pm in the Gore Bay community hall.

Cellular mobile broadband project close to completion on Western Manitoulin

MANITOULIN—Within the next few weeks the new cellular and mobile broadband towers will be completely constructed and services in place providing high speed Internet service for Western and Central Manitoulin residents, says a representative of NetCentral Telecommunications Services.

“The latest update I have is that the Rogers towers are now co-locating with the Bell towers in Evansville and Providence Bay,” said Morry Brown, of NetCentral, late last week. “And Bell is scheduled to be co-locating the towers in Morrisville and Meldrum Bay the second week in December.”

“So by the week of December 12 the final work will be carried out and that will be it, everything will be up and running,” said Mr. Brown. “We are looking forward to everyone being able to enjoy the services both Rogers and Bell towers will both be delivering.”
