SUDBURY – From May 17-23rd, Traffic Management Unit Officers along with Patrol Officers of the Greater Sudbury Police Service participated in a traffic enforcement initiative as part of Canada Road Safety Week, focusing on; aggressive, distracted and impaired driving, and the use of seat belts and child restraints.
The goal of Canada Road Safety Week is to save lives and reduce injuries on Canada’s highways. Mobile and stationary speed enforcement, along with R.I.D.E. checks were conducted throughout our city, resulting in the charges;
- Impaired driving – 2
- Driving with a suspended licence – 1
- Speeding – 150
- Driving while using a hand-held communication device – 6
- Driving while not wearing a seatbelt – 4
- Other provincial offences – 82
- Insurance Act charges (failure to surrender insurance or no insurance surrendered) – 3
- Stunt Driving – 2
It is Our Shared Commitment to keep our roadways safe for all those travelling every day of the year. Please remember to never drink and drive, always use seat belts and child restraints every time you travel in a motor vehicle, and pay attention to the road. Distracted and aggressive driving may lead to a collision that could be easily avoided.
