Response to Bill Caesar’s chunnel proposal to replace aging bridge

“Finally my old friend has come up with an idea it is difficult to argue against”

To the Expositor:

A response to the letter by Bill Caesar, ‘Troubled bridge over North Channel waters needs replacement,’ July 19, Page 4.

Finally my old friend and colleague has come up with an idea which is very difficult to argue against.

The idea is financially (1) cheapest; (2) allows us to keep our most famous identifier-old bridge; (3) brings us up to the world of 2017 – why go over when you can go under!; (4) option of landing anywhere between Harbor Vue Marina and Centennial Manor; and (5) it’s politically correct, no other town on Manitoulin could argue they are even in the running and the list goes on and on.

All my life I have hoped to enter Manitoulin through a big “culvert.” I went through a mountain in one, 18 km, in Switzerland. What an experience! This one will be small potatoes.

Best wishes,

Norm Morrell
