The Bray construction company has been building the new bridge across the Mindemoya River and has been putting in long hours and working weekends to try and finish. The work is really proceeding and we look forward to its completion. We are still using the single lane Bailey bridge that is controlled by the first stop light in Providence Bay. We’re thankful that it will soon be a thing of the past.
The Providence Bay/Spring Bay Lions Club recently hosted a dinner for dignitaries from the provincial level of the Lions Club. They served a wonderful rib dinner while welcoming them to see what the local club has been doing. Dennis McFarlane was inducted as a new member that evening. They are a wonderful service club that does a lot of fundraising that benefits our community. They are always looking for new members. They meet the first and third Sunday of each month at the Providence Bay Curling Club.
Ray Smith of London has been home visiting all week. Great to see you, Ray.
We have some very wonderful volunteers in our community. After the theft of the turkey decoy, some flowers and pumpkins from one of the displays for the Harvest Glory Days contest, they’ve erected some scarecrows in their place. A priest and a nun have been put up with a sign stating “Thou Shalt Not Steal.” Thank you so much for the humour in place of an unsettling act against our community.
Kathy Warner (nee Simpson) from Windsor is home for the Thanksgiving weekend. Her brother Dave Simpson of California is also home. Parents Eddy and Betty must be so happy having the both of them here.
Toots McDermid is turning 90. They are having a celebratory birthday party for her at the Providence Bay Curling Club on Saturday, October 14 from 1-3 pm. Drop by, she’d love to see you.
Now that we are getting temperatures closer to average, it’s beginning to feel a bit more like fall. The leaves are all starting to change colour and are looking spectacular. The reds are brilliant. The oranges appear to be on fire. The yellow leaves are blending them all together with some of the remaining green to complete a vivid tapestry of fall. It’s such a wonderful time of year.
Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone it’s important to remember that we don’t have to wait for this annual event to give thanks. Practicing gratitude on a daily basis can greatly improve your quality of life. Try finding three things each day that you are thankful for and contemplate them as you drift off to sleep.
The Huron Island Time ice cream shop has now closed for the season. Everyone really enjoyed the outdoor music concert series this year and look forward to next year’s series.
