The township and DBI were through our village and swept up all the sand from the sidewalks that was leftover from winter maintenance to the streets. It sure looks great and it makes for much nicer walking. Thanks for the work that you do to keep our town looking beautiful.
It was interesting to note that the old “Prescott’s Restaurant” is up for sale again. Let’s hope that an interested restauranteur decides to open a new old business.
The monthly curling club breakfast was once again a success this month with 40 people coming out for a delicious and affordable meal.
The scheduled power outage that was to run from 7 am to 2 pm this past Saturday, May 7 lasted a little longer than anticipated with power being restored by 3:30 pm. We’ll have to keep that in mind for the next one scheduled for May 29.
Upcoming birthdays are being celebrated by Gord Glanville on May 10, Matt Young and Jean Pearson on May 11, and Jason McMaster is celebrating sometime in May.
It’s sure nice to drive around and see all of the open water everywhere. Everything is turning so green. It’s amazing how quickly our landscape can turn from white to brown and then to green. There are plenty of daffodils and marsh marigolds lending their brilliant yellow’s to our landscape. A few trilliums can even be seen starting to bloom. The fiddleheads are out and ready for picking along with the morel mushrooms.
Don’t forget about the upcoming benefit spaghetti dinner for Dawn Young being held Thursday, May 12 from 5 to 7 pm at the Providence Bay Centennial Hall. It costs $10 per plate and $5 for children aged 5-10. Dinner includes spaghetti, garlic bread, dessert and a drink. Tickets are available at Simply Soup and Sandwich or Wilson’s Corner Store in Mindemoya, at Buie’s Grocery and LCBO in Spring Bay, Loco Beanz in Gore Bay or by contacting Tina Young Tolsma, Joanna Young Noble, Patricia Lawrence Young, Natalie Noble, Gayle Payette or you can pay at the door.
The Beach Clean Up is schedule for Saturday, May 14. Meet at the Harbour Centre at 10 am. Volunteers are encouraged to bring your own rakes. A barbecue lunch will be provided. Let’s all pitch in to keep the Providence Bay Beach clean. This event is sponsored by the Providence Bay Community Centre Board. If required, the rain date will be Sunday, May 15.
A donation jar has been put out for the Providence Bay Village Square beautification project at the Providence Bay Post Office. There is still the one that has been put out at Buie’s Grocery and LCBO in Spring Bay. Matt Young is also continuing to collect empty bottles to assist with the project.
Remember to practice good fire safety since we are having such a dry spring and in light of the recent forest fires out in western Canada. Ensure that if you enjoy backyard fires that your pit is at least 10 feet away from any structure of combustible surface. Check the weather forecast and avoid windy weather conditions that can blow embers. Make sure that you clear away dry leaves or combustible materials from the fire pit. Keep a water source close by. Keep your fire small. There’s no need for a blazing bonfire, and the bigger the fire, the greater the potential for disaster. If you are a smoker, please do not throw cigarette butts out of car windows and please dispose of them properly.
