The Canada Day Celebrations of free cake and lemonade were incorrectly reported as being donated by the Lions Club but was actually donated by the Discovery Centre Board and Township of Central Manitoulin.

Major Lesley Kerckhoff and daughter Emily were home to visit her parents Les and Elsie Glanville. She’s received a new title of Rifle Commander. She’s only the second woman to receive this rank in 143 years. Les then travelled down to Winthrop for his family reunion with a fantastic turnout of 92 people.
Sally Dawson nee McDermid was here visiting her mother Toots for a week.
Tom and Lynda Boyd from Calgary are back staying at their summer home on Lake Mindemoya. Lynda’s mother was Margaret Jackson who was a neighbour of Becky and Eldy Smith renting off of Morley and Elaine Lanktree. Their son and daughter-in-law, who are also from Calgary, are here visiting for two weeks.
Just a reminder of some entertainment that is being organized by Huron Island Time outside of the Harbour View Centre. Every Thursday is the sunset concert from 7 to 9 pm. In addition to this they have an open mike night every Saturday night from 7 to 9 pm.
Ride Manitoulin was again held at the Providence Bay Fairgrounds. This annual event raises money for The Starlight Foundation. They had a lot of activities that were popular such as the shine and show, different vendors and the motorcycle rodeo. The Providence Bay/Spring Bay Lions Club hosted the pulled pork stand and the beer gardens. There were dances held on both Friday and Saturday nights. The Saturday night dance featured live entertainment with a blues band from London, Ontario, Tim Woodcock. They finished off the night with a spectacular rendition of a Pink Floyd favourite. A great time was had by all.

There is a literary evening being held in Providence Bay for readers and writers on Friday, July 22 from 7 to 9 pm. This is a free event that features short readings by Ann Elizabeth Carson, Gail Anderson-Dargatz and emerging writers of the Providence Bay Writers’ Camp that is being held this week. Following this there will be a panel discussion on the issues that stop writers from finishing a book and how to overcome them. It is being held at the Community of Christ Church on McNevin Street. The monthly euchre tournament is being held at the Providence Bay Seniors Twilight Club on July 26. Don’t forget you need a partner to join. It starts at 8 pm.
