On Sunday, June 5, the Community of Christ Church had a dedication for their new Peace Pole on the back lawn of the church yard, there was also a beautiful bench dedicated in memory of Humphrey Beaudin. Please drop by to enjoy the peaceful area.
Denis Paquette has returned home for an extended visit. He’s enjoying visiting family and friends, working with his Dad and has found a new friend, Tycoon, a motherless raccoon that he has to feed by syringe.
The results of the Euchre Night that was hosted by the Providence Bay Seniors’ Twilight Club on Tuesday, June 7 are as follows. ladies’ high was Laura Scott, ladies’ low was Deanie and ladies’ lone hands was Laura Scott. The men’s high was Marg Cranston, men’s low was Gib Pyette and men’s lone hand was Marg Cranston.
Get well wishes go out to Brian Jr. from the park who required surgery after an injury.
The work on the cell phone tower going up on Highway 551 just north of Providence Bay is beginning in earnest with the steel being erected.
The new dockmaster at the Providence Bay Government Dock is Rob. He’s posted his number on the door of the dock house if he is not there. So if you require assistance or have questions with docking or launching matters please give him a call at 705-929-1561.
The Mutchmor continues to bring in a great number of visitors to our little village. It’s great to see all of the residents of our island coming to see what is available as well as the tourists that are here visiting.
The Bluegrass in the Country music festival that was held at the Providence Bay Fairgrounds again this year appeared to be a huge success. There were such a great number of trailers there. The music was fantastic and even the little bit of rain that started at the end of Friday night couldn’t put a damper on everyone’s enthusiasm. Carol Hughes, our MP, was spotted out enjoying the popular fundraiser for the Manitoulin Island Special Olympics.
The work bee that was held on Saturday, June 11 was very productive. There were lots of wonderful volunteers out helping to ensure that our community is beautiful for everyone to enjoy. Your hard work and selflessness in donating your time to the community is greatly appreciated. A big thank you to Blair Jr. and Calvin for bringing heavy equipment down to help with some digging and the moving of top soil. Keep an eye out for the next upcoming work bee schedule.
The wind blew down a giant Manitoba maple tree that fell across Highway 551 by the bridge across the Mindemoya River sometime overnight being noticed on Sunday, June 12. The tree was hung up on the hydro lines so this required a collaboration of services to ensure that the job to clear the highway was done safely. Thank you to everyone involved.
Visiting Bill and Marlene Jewell this week is Olivia Reynolds (her second annual visit). Her entourage includes her mother, Jenna Reynolds and her grandparents Judy and Steve Mauk plus her uncle Garry Broadhead, all from Ithaca NY. Olivia’s Uncle Ryan Mauk and his friend Sara are also visiting from Portland, Oregon. Olivia is the fourth generation of Mauk family members to be with Bill and Marlene on an annual visit. She celebrated her first birthday April 10.
