The results for the monthly euchre tournament that’s held the last Tuesday of each month was on May 31. The first place winners were Linda and Danielle (79). Second place went to Aline and Lilly (78). Third spot went to Bill and Brad with 76 points. Fourth place winners were Pat and Marion (76). The lowest hands this month went to Carol and Irene with a total score of 74. The most lone hands was shared his month by Bill and Laura’s team and Danielle and Linda. A good time was had by all. The weekly euchre games will continue to be held for the month of June beginning at 8 pm each Tuesday. Everyone is welcome and you don’t need to have a partner for the weekly games. Just show up and a partner will be found for you. It’s a great night out and enjoy a light snack following the games.
More work has been done on the new Bell/Rogers tower that’s going up. Cement bases have been poured. It’s exciting to see the progress that goes on.
The gardens around the village are getting a facelift. Many thanks go out to Danielle Paquette, Laura Kernohan, Ingrid Blay and Kat Dalcourt and to a phantom gardener who’s help is appreciated but wishes to remain nameless. The monthly curling club breakfast had 48 people for breakfast. It’s so nice to see everyone coming out and enjoying an affordable meal while supporting a local group.
Dawn Young continues to wait for the call that could mean life or death for her. She remains on the donor list for a kidney and a pancreas transplant. Her medical expenses remain quite high due to medical treatments she is receiving now. Additional costs for her and her family will be incurred when she has to travel to London once there is a match for her transplants. This family continues to be under strain. Any assistance that you can provide to help this local family with their medical costs will be greatly appreciated. It’s unbelievable to see how much all of the grass and foliage has grown and turned green considering we last had snow just over two weeks ago. The lilacs have blossomed and are filling the air with their intoxicating aroma. It’s finally rained this weekend and although some people were unhappy to see it on a weekend, most agreed that it was much needed.
The Muthcmor opened its doors on June 3. There were lots of people who were stopping and shopping and enjoying the wonderful selection of wares that are for sale. There are cutting boards, home décor, clothing, jewellery, health foods, art and the café to visit before you head home with your purchases. It’s open 8:30 am to 5:30 pm daily.
The second beach clean-up of the year was held clean up the beach to the east of the mouth of the Mindemoya River. Thank you to everyone who showed up. The community projects that are so well represented by volunteers are a true testament to the character of our residents’.

Don’t forget that Bluegrass in the Country is being hosted at the Providence Bay Fairgrounds beginning Friday, June 10 and continuing through to Sunday, June 12. This annual fundraiser for the Special Olympics is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to enjoy a special brand of music that is a joy to listen and tap your feet to. All proceeds go to support the Manitoulin Island Special Olympics. Tickets can be bought for $45 in advance or $50 at the gate for an entire weekend pass. Tickets are available for $25 for just Friday night. Advance ticket can be purchased by calling 705-282-8158 or 705-282-0368.
