Manitoulin Meat Boss is a locally-run business with a mission to provide Manitoulin Island with fresh, quality-cut meat. TJ McDermid is the owner and operator of this butcher shop that recently opened their doors at the old site of Papa’s Meats at 4333 Highway 551 in Providence Bay near Dryden’s corner. They are open Monday through to Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm. So be sure to stop in and support our new local business.

The monthly euchre tournament that was held on April 24 had the following results: First place was won by Linda/Marg team with 85 points, a close second place was taken by Sheila/Graham team with 84 points. Third place was won by Marge/Marlaine team with 79 points and fourth place win was a tie with Ken/Dorothy and Irene/Patricia with 69 points. The low team was Anna and Janet. The team with the most lone hands was Linda/Marg.

Congratulations go out to former resident Debbie White for being recognized with the Peel Elementary Teachers’ Local President’s Award a their annual Awards Dinner held on April 24. Debbie commented that her family, friends and colleagues have always been a source of inspiration, support and encouragement. She went on to say that she has always considered herself to be a small piece of a much larger movement that is growing as more people are becoming aware of the true history of Canada and its relationship with indigenous people.

The Township has returned to the beach with the machinery required to clean up the beach. They’ve cleaned up a lot of invasive species, shrubs and trees that have grown up over the years. It looks so beautiful to see pristine white sand back and to know that the Township followed the proper channels to ensure a 25 year plan of keeping the beach clean for recreational use while promoting an eco-friendly environment.

The Ride Manitoulin Motorcycle Rally is looking for volunteers to assist with planning of this annual event. The local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Society is the chosen charity for this year’s event along with a donation to be made to the Manitoulin Pet Rescue. If either of these charities or the thought of promoting our little village is something that you are interested in, then please attend the planning meeting on Wednesday, May 2 at 7 pm at the Mindemoya Community Centre. In addition to the ride, there are two nights of live bands, beer garden, biker games, food booths and vendors on site. This year’s event is being held July 13 and 14.

Don’t forget to come out to the Providence Bay Curling Club for their monthly buffet breakfast on Thursday, May 3 beginning at 7 until 9 am. This monthly fundraiser helps to support building costs.

If you haven’t already done it, be sure to mark your calendar that Hydro One has a planned power outage scheduled for Sunday, May 6 from 9 am until 3 pm to perform regular maintenance on the lines.
