The Government Road was well represented at Casino Rama in Orillia on Friday, January 29. Tehkummah’s own Justin Ward, who plays the steel guitar as well as other instruments for country music star Scotty McCreery, put on a concert there. Lyle and Sharon Dewar, Russ and Joan Kay, Marg Elliott and Linda McGillis all motored down to enjoy the show. A good time was had by all.

The Providence Bay Seniors Twilight Club had 26 people out to enjoy live music and fun games in the basement of the Centennial Hall on Thursday, February 11. Music was provided by Jeff Pyette who sang old and new songs with everyone singing right along. Bernice Lewis sang some of her favourite songs and Elwood Lewis performed some of his as well. Everyone wished him a very happy birthday as he turned 85 years young. Some of the games that were played were cards, marbles, checkers and crokinole. It sure made for an entertaining afternoon.

Les and Elsie Glanville were down to Petawawa to celebrate their granddaughters’ birthday. Happy Birthday wishes go out to Emily Kerckhoff, who turned 8. She’s the daughter of Major Lesley (nee Glanville) and Major Enno Kerckhoff. Lesley just returned from a six-month placement in the Ukraine.

It’s sure been a cold weekend with the polar vortex of past years returning. It was interesting to see the beautiful bay that had remained open for so long due to the mild weather suddenly freeze. The waves maintaining the illusion of movement as they froze into ice sculptures so quickly. And then, the bay is frozen over. We sure live in a beautiful part of the country. If you’d like to see some fantastic pictures of our beautiful island, you can find plenty on Facebook. Manitoulin History, Manitoulin Island Life, and Peter Baumgarten–Creative Island Photography have some great photographs.

The provincial Family Day long weekend was enjoyed by many with plenty of activities for everyone. The province of Ontario provided a licence free weekend for families to get together and enjoy fishing. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs also offered free trail riding. All you had to do is register your sled and print off a temporary licence. Good to remember for next year.

Cynthia Tilley of London, Ontario was home to visit family for the long weekend.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Mike Neill from wife Anna and daughters, Cynthia and Marley. We all wish a Happy Birthday to Charlene Sullivan and Tabby Kay.
