This weekend there were lots of activities for the tourists and locals in the area. The 5th annual Ride Manitoulin motorcycle rally. There were approximately 130 riders and fun was had by all reports. The weather forecast was not all that promising but then turned out to be fair. Becky’s Biker Breakfast was held at the hall Saturday morning. Thanks to Becky. The poker run was great and people loved the ride. The biker games were a lot of fun to watch. The bands were rocking and a great time was had by all. Proceeds from Ride Manitoulin Bike Rally 2015 are donated to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Thanks to all volunteers!
The Manitoulin Art Tour was also another great event for tourists to explore throughout the Island this past weekend. Lots of talented artists living here on the Island who opened up their homes and studios to passersby.
The weather on Saturday turned out to be a nice hot day in the afternoon, with lots of beachgoers. Also, when walking the boardwalk keep an eye out for the monarch caterpillars, they are out on the milkweed, which is their only source of food. Keep your eye out for a bald eagle that was spotted in Providence Bay.
The Providence Bay Discovery Centre had a successful kite day with many kids making kites and flying kites that were on loan from the Huron Island Time.
We would like to welcome the seven writers to Providence Bay adults writers’ camp with Gail- Anderson-Dartz.
The Discovery Centre is hosting a Giant Sand Castle Day on July 22 at 1:30 pm. Come on out for kids of all ages. There will be live music this Thursday, July 23 at 8 pm at the Deck of Huron Island Time. Pay what you can for the musician as part of the Sunset Concert Series.
A black bear has been spotted in town again. Jamie McDermid was able to get a few great pictures of it. Don’t forget to be bear wise. Some suggestions are: don’t feed birds in the summer, ensure your barbecue is cleaned after each use, don’t feed your pets outside and do not put out your garbage until just before pick up. Sally Dawson was home from Toronto to help family and friends celebrate Murray McDermid’s 85th birthday. Glen and Mona Bryan from Windsor have been up to their summer home for a visit. Glen celebrated a birthday while here. Happy birthday! Kerry George of Toronto was up visiting friends. Dan, Alexia and Ceilidh Gilchrist from Sudbury were home for the weekend. Verna Young and son Nikky were home from Manitoba for a three week visit.
Breakfast Club from Monday to Friday from 7 to 9:30 am is still going with visitors from Windsor who were up for a wedding of Scott Hamilton and Kerry Carr. Everyone welcome.
Long time Providence Bay residents Muriel Blue (December 31, 1919) and Everett Pattison (February 14, 1924) are well and send best wishes from Gore Bay Manor.
Happy Birthday to long time resident Murray McDermid who just turned 88 and celebrated his birthday on July 16.
