Town responds that all appropriate hiring processes were followed
To the Expositor:
The November 30 issue of this paper featured an advertisement from the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands, looking for a full-time Public Works Assistant Foreman. The ad stated that the application deadline was Monday, December 5, 2016 at noon.
Question: Why did NEMI even advertise the job, as prior to November 30 they had already asked an ex-employee, who had quit his job after a year’s service, to come work for them again? When I spoke with a councillor a few days before the application deadline, he said that he had just heard about it and was told that the man in question, hired for this job, was hired on a contract. Sounds kind of shady to me?

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Expositor contacted Northeast Town CAO Dave Williamson for comment, which follows here: “As the position is critical, it was filled with a short term employee on a contract basis. The position was then advertised and awarded to the candidate that best fit the position. The successful candidate was also the person employed on the short term contract. All appropriate hiring processes were followed.”
