PRESS RELEASE: OPP SEARCH WARRANT LEADS TO MULTIPLE ARRESTS

(ESPANOLA, ON) – A Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) search warrant leads to multiple arrests at a residence on Albert Street in Espanola.

On December 8, 2022, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a CDSA search warrant with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT).

A search of the residence led to the seizure of over 15 grams of suspected Fentanyl, over 9 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, and over 62 grams of suspected crack cocaine. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is approximately $17,000. Police also located approximately $775 in Canadian currency. As a result, six people were arrested and charged.

Richmond ATWITA, 19-years-old from Toronto was charged with:
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
• Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
• Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on January 16, 2023.

Constance ELLIOTT, 59-years-old from Espanola was charged with:
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

Matthew ENGLAND, 23-years-old from Sudbury was charged with:
• Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition contrary to section 92(2) CC
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) CDSA
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

Jordan LAMOTHE, 32-years-old from Espanola was charged with:
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

Nicholas NAVEAU, 30-years-old from Espanola was charged with:
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

Cecile TROTTIER, 30-years-old from Espanola was charged with:
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 4(1) CDSA
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

The remainder of accused persons are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on February 13, 2023.
