Manitoulin business man charged with drug offences
The Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Little Current businessman with drug related offences following a search warrant executed in Little Current.
At 5:30 pm on Tuesday, January 5, members of the Manitoulin OPP detachment, assisted by the OPP organized crime enforcement bureau-drug enforcement unit along with the OPP emergency response team, attended a business and attached residence in Little Current with a search warrant. As a result of the search cannabis, morphine, oxycodone and cash were seized.
A 41-year-old Little Current man has been arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the controlled drug and substances act and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court on Friday, January 8, in Gore Bay.
RIDE check results in impaired driver charged
At 5 pm on Monday, December 21, members of the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check on Highway 540B in Gore Bay when a pick-up truck approached the location. An officer spoke with the driver and determined he had consumed alcohol.
As a result of this investigation, a 46-year-old man from Central Manitoulin was charged with impaired driving and exceeding the legal limit of alcohol in his blood contrary to section 253(1)(a) and 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on January 25.
The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 911 immediately.
Birch Island man charged with making death threat
A Birch Island man has been charged by the Espanola police with making a death threat.
The Espanola police report the 18-year-old man was with his girlfriend in Espanola when the woman says he suddenly “freaked out” and threatened to stab and kill her.
The woman called 911 and the police were on the scene very quickly. The man then fled the scene, but the police observed the man in a cab and proceeded to arrest him.
The accused was also charged by the police with three counts of using a stolen credit card after a debit card was stolen from another vehicle.
