On Thursday evening the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre played host a to a full crowd of fans and well wishes as seven young women vied for the title of Miss Manitoulin 2013. The popular Haweater Weekend event had taken an almost a decade-long hiatus, but was welcomed back to the fold with open arms, judging by the audience response. Competing were Santanna Francis of Aundeck Omni Kaning, Eden Beaudin of M’Chigeeng, Dejanay Waindubence of Sheguiandah, Brooke Debassige of M’Chigeeng, Tasha Behm of Aundeck Omni Kaning, Robin Lentir of Gore Bay and Sarah Migwans-Bayer of M’Chigeeng. Second runner-up for the title of Miss Manitoulin is Tasha Behm, first runner-up is Santanna Francis and Miss Manitoulin 2013 is Brooke Debassige. Congratulations to all these young women and be sure to wish Ms. Debassige well when you see her this Haweater Weekend.
