Ornge Air ambulance in need of repairs at MHC

During an air ambulance flight Friday evening, August 8, the gearbox sensor on one of Ornge Air’s Toronto-based helicopters activated. This occurred on final approach and the aircraft landed as planned without incident on the helipad of Manitoulin Health Centre in Little Current. There was no patient on board at the time. Ornge aircraft maintenance engineers will be attending to the aircraft to identify the nature of the issue, representatives of Ornge told The Expositor Monday. While the helipad is occupied, patient transfers by air to and from Manitoulin Health Centre will continue. The Manitoulin East Municipal Airport, in cooperation with the Sudbury Central Ambulance Communications Centre, will be used in the interim.
