Ole Liefso passed away in his 88th year on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Manitoulin Health Centre after a brief illness. Ole moved to Little Current after he retired from INCO in 1985. He was an astute judge of horses and was part owner of several Trotters who raced throughout Ontario. He enjoyed attending the many Country Fairs on the Island and Massey, especially the horse pulls. He loved to cook for his family and took great pride in his garden of which he shared the bounty with various neighbours and friends. He and “Babe” Hannah could be seen at the Anchor Inn more often than not enjoying their western sandwiches and soup. Many times you could spot him sitting in his car on Water Street just “people watching”. He had many friends in the Anishinabe nation and was much respected as well. He was a loving, kind, generous giant of a man who lived a simple honest life. He respected truth and honesty above all else and will be sadly missed by many who shared his traits. He is predeceased by his loving partner Mary “Babe” Hannah, and all his siblings. He is survived by his step-daughter Deborah Clement (Richard, predeceased) and many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild as well as nieces and nephews most of which are in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I wish to thank Dr. Barrs, Dr. Meikleham, Terry and the rest of the nursing staff at the Manitoulin Health Centre. Your loving, compassionate care eased his way to his Lord and family. I also wish to thank Island Funeral Home for their kind assistance with the funeral arrangements. At Ole’s request there was no visitation. A private interment will be conducted in the near future. Donations are respectfully requested to the Northern Ontario Cancer Research Foundation in Sudbury. Arrangements entrusted to Island Funeral Home, Little Current.
