Commercial garbage pickup set at $50
The Northeast Town council carried a motion based on a recommendation from the community services and public works department, setting the commercial garbage pickup rate at $50 for any pickup outside of the normal schedule for the urban areas and $50 for every pickup in the rural areas.
Council moves into new chambers
After amending bylaw 99-36, making the new Incubator and Technology Centre (the Little Current Post Office building, 14 Water Street) the official new meeting place of council, the Northeast Town council held its administration and finance committee meeting at the centre last Thursday.
Council supports LAMBAC Trade Fair initiative
The Northeast Town council reviewed and supported a letter from LAMBAC requesting support in an application for funding from FedNor for upgrades to the recreation centre for the Manitoulin Trade Fair. Town CAO Dave Williamson explained that, previously, council supported a similar request from LAMBAC for a partnership to apply for funding from Trillium, but that LAMBAC had decided to apply for funding from FedNor instead.
Northeast Town supports water level restoration efforts
Councillor Melissa Peters put a motion on the table at the Northeast Town’s last council meeting, asking council to contact the area MP and MPP to support initiatives made by the United States in restoring water levels in the Great Lakes.
The motion, which was supported and carried by council, reads, “Resolved that the Northeast Town writes to the MP and MPP to request that they support the initiatives the United States has started in restoring the water levels of the Great Lakes.”
Council relists Hayward Street subdivision
The Northeast Town council went into camera at its last Tuesday meeting, carrying a motion following the in camera meeting to relist the Hayward Street Subdivision properties with Bousquet Realty and J.A. Rolston Real Estate.
Committee approves financial reports
The administration and finance committee reviewed and approved the March financial reports as presented by town treasurer Sheryl Wilkin at last Thursday’s committee meeting.
Ms. Wilkin reported that there had been $291,062.79 in tax payments in March and $12,992.10 in accounts receivable for water and sewer.
“There are currently 22 accounts over $500, including five that have been disconnected, nine due to penalties applied by March 31, and two that have made arrangements,” stated Ms. Wilkin, adding that staff had contacted another six of the account holders over $500, but had not received a response.
Northeast Town council forwards OP concerns to planning board
The administration and finance committee reviewed a report from JL Richards regarding the effects the draft OP would have on the municipality. After a great deal of discussion, the committee made a recommendation to council to forward the report and council’s concerns with the OP to the Manitoulin Planning Board.
