NORMA ELLIOTT (WOODS)
March 30, 1943 – February 27, 2019
It is with profound sadness the family of Norma Elliott (Woods) announces her passing on February 27, 2019.
Norma was born on March 30th, 1943 to Lloyd and Katherine Woods in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Norma was the youngest of 13 children and is survived by her sister Josie Grant (Russ) of Serpent River, Ontario. In 1959 she married Bill Elliott and lived happily until his passing in 2012. After living in the Elliot Lake area for the first few years, Bill convinced Mom that Island life was for them to raise their family. Together they had three boys, Lloyd (Darlene) of Mindemoya, Johnny (Wendy) of Sault Ste. Marie and Glenn (Laurie) of Val Gagne. Grandmother to John, Glenn, Ryan, Amber, Cory and Shane. Great-grandmother to 10. Norma was well known for baking, cooking, canning and gardening. She loved participating in the annual Providence Bay Fair. Also, at the local farmers’ markets, she was known for her baked goods and crafts. She was the happiest in her kitchen preparing meals for all who came. Her baking was legendary; legend has it she made daily lunches for her boys to take to school. At one parent teacher night she found out son Johnny was selling his sandwiches made from homemade bread and baking to the highest bidder to fund his hockey card collection. Over Norma’s life she worked as the local Avon representative as well as working as a cook at the Island Hub Restaurant in Mindemoya. Norma was always more than happy to prepare goods for the Mindemoya Women’s Auxilliary when they were having their socials. A special thank you to the staff of both Little Current and Mindemoya Hospitals with the exceptional care that Norma received over the last several months and also to the PSWs who helped with her care over the last few years. Into the 80s and 90s, as Mom and Dad approached retirement, they opened up their home to Norma’s Bed & Breakfast. They thoroughly enjoyed entertaining people from all over the world. Donations to Mindemoya Women’s Auxilliary, Box 284, Mindemoya, ON P0P 1S0 or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
