‘Proof of Life’ by J.A. Jance – Before he retired, J.P. Beaumont had looked forward to having his days to himself and spending quality time with his busy wife, Mel, Bellinham’s chief of police, and his two grown children. But too much free time isn’t working for Beau. When his longtime nemesis, a retired Seattle crime reporter, dies in what’s officially deemed to be an accidental fire, Beau is astonished to be dragged into the investigation at the request of none other than the deceased victim himself. An exciting read.
‘The Family Lawyer’ by James Patterson – Matthew is living a parent’s worst nightmare: his young daughter is accused of bullying another girl into suicide. But this loving father is also a skilled criminal defence attorney and something here doesn’t add up. A good read.
‘Warman’s Antiques and Collectibles 2017’ – This is a very good book if you are trying to find information about some of those lovely antiques you have had for years. You will enjoy the insight, information and stunning images of some of those long-held favourites and emerging genres as well as the whimsical and delightful that make the collecting hobby so intriguing.
‘I Know a Secret’ by Tess Gerritsen (A Rizzoli and Isles book) – Two separate homicides at different locations with unrelated victims have more in common than just being investigated by Boston PD detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles. In both cases, the bodies bear startling wounds yet the actual cause of death is unknown. A really good read.
‘Y is for Yesterday’ by Sue Grafton – Saved the best for last this time. I am really going to miss this series as she is almost at the end of the alphabet—one more to go after this one. Kinsey Millhone is a private investigator and the very model of an independent woman. This series started with ‘A is for Alibi’ and every book I have enjoyed, and would highly recommend this mystery, especially if you don’t like a bunch of descriptive gore and forensic results. However, this is one of the darkest and most disturbing case that Kinsey has come across. She is drawn into a family drama and is now being haunted by someone from her past, a vicious with a grudge against Kinsey. Highly recommended by me!
Mahjong is still ongoing. Wednesday mornings at 10 am and beginners are welcome. This is the American version of an ancient Chinese game and people are really enjoying playing the game and the camaraderie. Try it you will like it!
