The Mustangs have been very busy over the past few weeks with sports, extracurriculars and academics. There is always something happening for each and every student to enjoy!

Congratulations to MSS’s robotics team “Manitoulin Metal” (Team 6865) for being the “Microsoft Team of the week” for the week of February 15th, 2019! Manitoulin Metal is busy getting ready for their competition season. This year’s competition is called “Destination Deep Space.” The team is designing, constructing, and coding a robot that will compete in an event at Nipissing University on March 28-30th and at McMaster University on April 5-7.

A robot joke for you: Why did the robot cross the road? Because it was programmed by the chicken.

On Tuesday, February 19, both the junior and senior girls’ volleyball teams were in action. The junior girls played against the Elliot Lake Atoms at MSS. Students were able to buy a ticket to get into the game for the afternoon. Many students took advantage of this opportunity to support their Mustangs. The junior girls took three straight sets, 25-19; 25-9; and 25-12 against the Atoms to become the NSSSA Junior Girls Volleyball “A” Champions. The junior girls will now be heading to NOSSA. The senior girls played the Espanola Spartans in Espanola. It was a great game, but the Mustangs lost in the fifth set to Espanola to finish second. Great job, girls!

The boys’ hockey team did not have a great start to their playoff season. They lost their first game against the Lockerby Vikings 6-1. In order to move on, the boys had to win their second game against the Vikings. The boys did not give up and won the game in over time. The final game against Lockerby was played on Monday, February 25 in Little Current at 3 pm. A bus was available to take students to the NEMI Recreation Centre who wanted to watch the game and support the Mustangs.

The girls hockey team played their first playoff game off the year yesterday, February 26, at the M’Chigeeng arena against the St. Benedict Bears.

Along with all the other sports that are still going on, badminton tryouts will be starting Mondays after school!

Vocal group is back practicing after taking a short break because of the production of ‘The Mikado.’ The first practice was held on Thursday, February 21 after school. New members are always welcome!

Parent/Guardian Night is Thursday, March 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at MSS. Come out and meet your child’s teachers and see how he/she is doing in their classes.

Joke of the week: Why should you stand in the corner if you get cold? Because it’s always 90 degrees.

Upcoming events include, volleyball, hockey playoffs, Parent/Guardian Night and March Break!
