I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving!
On Tuesday, October 2, the junior girls’ basketball team played an away game against Espanola High School. The girls played very well and ended up winning 25-15! The junior girls’ basketball team includes: Chloe Peltier, Savannah Eshquib, Whitter Gauthier, Autumn Deschenes, Sienna McGraw, Leah Carrick, Skye Setterington, Lindsay Sheppard, Zoe Redmond, Darci Debassige, Tierra Abotossaway as well as the coach, Mr. Trudeau.
On Wednesday, October 3, SHARE/Go green held a meeting discussing future events for the school year.
Thursday, October 4 was black and gold day to support the junior and senior girls’ basketball teams who were in action in the MSS gym. The junior girls played first and won against Central Algoma Huskies, 35-33. The senior girls played a close game against the Huskies, but unfortunately it ended in a loss. Great job, Mustangs!
On Thursday, October 4, a representative from University of Guelph came to MSS to speak to students in Grade 12 who are interested in going onto post-secondary education.
Also on Thursday, October 4, an open mic was held in the music room during lunch.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, a Thanksgiving feast was on the menu in the cafeteria on Thursday. Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, dessert and much more was available. Thank you to the cafeteria staff for preparing this special meal.
On Friday, October 5, the UCCM and OPP held a free barbecue at the school for all staff and students at MSS.
Friday, October 5 was World Teachers’ Day. Students celebrated the teachers at MSS all day long. Thank you to all the teachers out there, without you, an education would not be possible.
During the last period on Friday, all staff and students gathered in the gym to find Mr. Tallman dressed in a turkey costume. Then everyone was told that there would be a whole school battle of ‘rock, paper, scissors.’ The students battled it out and a winner was crowned. Afterwards, the students were able to enjoy a variety of different activities for the remainder of the day. Some activities included, Karaoke, volleyball, campfire and roasting marshmallows, Crossfit Challenge, art therapy, guitar jam, a movie, board games, and worm farming.
Just a reminder that tomorrow night, Thursday, October 11, is Parent/Guardian Night from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Please plan to attend.
Also, picture orders are due tomorrow, October 11, or shipping and handling fees will apply. Forms can be returned to the school or ordered online.
On Thursday, October 11, there will be a college information program in Espanola from 10:30 am to 12 pm.
On Friday, October 12, a representative from Nipissing University will be coming to MSS. The presentation will be at 1:40 pm.
On Monday, October 15, a speaker from Relay for Education will be coming to speak with the career studies class to talk about green or environmentally friendly careers.
A university information program is being held on October 15 in Espanola from 10 to 11 am. An aboriginal post-secondary information program will also be held at MSS from 9 to 10:15 am on October 15. For more information about information programs see your guidance counsellor or go to www.ouf.ca.

Hockey season for the Mustangs is in full swing. Tryouts for both the girls’ and boys’ teams have begun! When the puck is about to drop for the first time this season, please come out support the Mustangs!
All MSS students will be selling magazine subscriptions and tervis tumblers as a part of a fundraiser for extracurricular activities, such as buses for sporting events. All order forms have to be returned to the school by October 17!
