Displaying surprising industry in the face of a torrential downpour

To the Expositor:

To Dr. Joe D. Shorthouse:

Re: gathering of monarch butterflies.

Please know monarchs have been gathering in numbers on a milkweed plantation near our home on 32 Hall Road, Evansville.

A good sized patch to the west of the south end of the road has been well attended as is a small patch to the east of our house.

Monarchs flutter past our home throughout the day.

I was surprised at the industry of these butterflies when at least three of them attended the Hall Road patch throughout a good downpour-battling their way up to the sodden heads of the milkweeds. I trust this means we will have caterpillars before long.

I expect and hope monarchs will be found elsewhere across the Island this year.
