MANITOULIN—McDougall Energy, a leading marketer and distributor of fuel-related products and services across the region, in cooperation with Imperial Oil has generously come forward to support Manitoulin Health Centre’s (MHC) cardiac care equipment needs with a leadership gift of $10,000.

Patients with heart issues are often admitted and treated on-site at MHC. Cardiac monitoring equipment allows for close observation of a patient’s heart function and MHC’s current equipment is aging and requires replacement and so a plan has been initiated for this purpose.

“The timing of the gift couldn’t be better! This generous offer of support has arrived at the right time to aid MHC in replacing cardiac monitoring equipment across our two sites. McDougall Energy and Imperial Oil are leaders in their field, but just as importantly they are coming forward locally as great corporate citizens,” said MHC CEO Derek Graham.

“We at McDougall Energy take great pride in the communities we operate in and Manitoulin Island is no exception,” said Darren McDougall, president of McDougall Energy Inc. “We are motivated in supporting health care initiatives across Northern Ontario and by partnering with the MHC we can be assured that local health care services are reaching its citizens.”

“Through our community investment program we are pleased to assist in the purchasing of much needed cardiac monitoring equipment,” said Mr. McDougall. “On behalf of our Manitoulin team, extended families and our partner, Imperial, we are happy to support health care practitioners by helping equip them with the tools they need to continue to deliver the same great service.”

“Imperial and McDougall Energy have a long and proud history and we are pleased to support the Manitoulin Health Centre via the Esso Community Program.” This program “was created to support initiatives that have a positive impact on the community, as well as reinforce the commitment of Esso branded retailers and associates to the communities where their customers live,” said Martyn Iles, senior fuels account executive, fuels marketing-wholesale and specialties, Imperial Oil.

MHC has joined with other hospitals across Ontario within a shared purchasing plan for this equipment. Various companies will bid on the business volume from all participating hospitals, bringing the best features and best pricing forward. The equipment will be purchased sometime later this year and installed at both the Mindemoya and Little Current sites. MHC will be directing donations that come from the community towards this need, whenever possible, over the coming months.
