MARY ELLEN ROFFEL (NEE HEMBRUFF)

The world lost an extraordinary woman, Mary Ellen Roffel (Nee Hembruff). She died peacefully surrounded by family, at Health Sciences North Centre, Sudbury Ontario, after a long 20- plus year battle with cancer, on Saturday November 4th, 2017. Mary Ellen was born June 27, 1945. Raised on Manitoulin Island. Daughter of Audrey Hembruff and Beatrice Hembruff (nee Grant) (predeceased). Till her move to British Columbia in her adult years, where she met Frank Roffel,. who she married on Manitoulin Island on December 11, 1982. Manitoulin Island was her heart, and over the years kept drawing her back home. Mary Ellen was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and friend to everyone she met. Over the years she worked in many industries. Her passion was baking, and Christmas was her favorite time of year. She loved life, she lived it to the fullest and loved it. She had many adventures and enjoyed telling the stories of her life. She loved people and always made people feel part of her family. Her strength was unmeasurable. Even on the darkest of days, she always found a way to smile. But what was most dear to her was her family. She will be missed by many. She is survived by her sister Joyce Sprack (Brian) of Manitowaning and brothers Allan Hembruff (Lyn) of Levack, Lynn Hembruff (Carol-predeceased) of British Columbia. (predeceased) by brothers Grant Hembruff (Iris) of British Columbia, Lyle Hembruff (Stella) of British Columbia, Randy Hembruff of British Columbia. Mary Ellen had 5 children: Paul Moggy of Milton, Darin Moggy (Joanna) of Elliot Lake, Todd Moggy (Denise) of Levack, Steven Craig Moggy (predeceased), Gena Williamson (nee Moggy) (Steve) of Prattville, Alabama. Step-mother to Franke Jr, (Karen) Ted, Dale, and Chip Roffel (predeceased) of British Columbia, and Tina (Morley) Whitmore of (Levack). Grandmother to: Giovanni (Lindsey) and Kris (Kaitlynn) Onucky, Brody Moggy, Kelsie (Paul) Amyot, Parker Williamson, Brandy, Julie, Jason, Brenden, Josh, Liam, Daniel, Trent and Tamara. Roffel. Great-grandmother to Benjamin Amyot. Aunt to Traci (Brent) Robinson, Dana (Jason) Naylor, Shawn (Melissa) Hembruff, Kelly Hembruff, Karen-Ann Hembruff, Debbie (Larry) Robinson, Mike (Norma) Sprack, Anne (John) Sprack, Sherrie Sprack, Marc (Wayne) Sprack, Scott (Christina) Sprack, Katie Hembruff, Ritchie Hembruff, Amber Hembruff, Trevor Hembruff, Jennifer Llewellyn (nee Hembruff).And a great-aunt to many precious nieces and nephews.A special thank you to Anne Sprack for your love and devotion to our mother in this difficult time. Mary Ellen’s final resting place will follow on June, 27, 2018 at Hilly Grove Cemetery, Manitowaning, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the cancer society or the autism society.
