Marijuana growing operation dismantled in Espanola, debt list seized

ESPANOLA–On December 19, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Sudbury Drug Enforcement Unit in partnership with the Espanola Police Service, Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, United Chiefs and Council (UCCM) of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service and members of the Manitoulin Island OPP Detachment, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence in the Town of Espanola.

As a result of this investigation, an indoor marijuana growing operation was dismantled. Two hundred and seven cannabis marijuana plants, 40 grams of marijuana, packaging material, a debt list and grow equipment were seized. One adult and one young person were arrested and have been charged with production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking. They were both released from custody and will appear in court in February 2014.

The street value of the drugs seized is $207,569.
