MANITOULIN—If you’re seeking Halloween fun, look no further than the many haunted activities here on Manitoulin leading up to October 31.
New this year is the Haunted Trail in M’Chigeeng at the Great Spirit Circle Trail (on Highway 540). The scares will start on Thursday, October 23, with tours taking place every half hour from 7 to 9 pm for kids and ramping up for adults from 9 to 10 pm. There will also be tours on Friday, October 24, Saturday, October 24, Sunday, October 25 and on Halloween, Friday, October 31. Admission is $5 and will go towards the Manitoulin Panthers novice division.
Be ready for a fright at the Green Bay Haunted Hall this Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25 from 7 to 9:30 pm at the Green Bay Hall located at 4531 Bidwell Road. There will be both a haunted basement tour and a walking dead outdoor maze. The fun will take place again on All Hallow’s Eve, Friday, October 31 from 8 to 10 pm. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children with the price of admission including a hot beverage and treat bag.
Also starting Friday night, Debajehmujig will be hosting its ‘Whatever you do…don’t let go of the rope!’ haunted tour. The hair-raising supernatural event will take place at the Debajehmujig Creation Centre, 43 Queen Street in Manitowaning. Starting on Friday, October 24, the event will also run on Saturday, October 25, Tuesday, October 28, Wednesday, October 29 and Thursday, October 30 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Admission is $8 or $5 for a non-perishable food item. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Parking will be available at the Guardian Pharmacy and participants are encouraged to dress warmly.
Put on your skates and wear your costume to the Halloween Skate at the Little Current Recreation Centre this Friday, October 24 from 7 to 9 pm. There will be prizes, music and a Mad Science Lab.
On Saturday, October 25 the Centennial Museum in Sheguiandah is hosting a Kid’s Halloween Party at 1 pm complete with games, goodies, crafts, a costume parade and scavenger hunt.
There will be a Halloween Ghost Walk on Saturday, October 25 in Ice Lake. The night will be fun for the whole family, with individuals encouraged to come in costume. Wagon rides and refreshments will also be offered. The event is sponsored by the Western Manitoulin Lions Club and is free, though donations will be accepted to help sponsor a seeing eye guide dog. The walk is located at 9 Douglas Road, Ice Lake.
In Wikwemikong on October 25 there will be the second annual Wiky Zombie Walk, so come lurch your way down Wikwemikong Way.
There will also be a family Halloween Dance at Pontiac School (across from the Wikwemikong Arena) on Thursday, October 30 from 6 to 9 pm. Admission is $5 or $12 for a family (3-4 members) and children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
If you want to dance the night away on Halloween there are lots of great parties to show off your costume.
The party starts this weekend at the Assiginack Curling Club in Manitowaning with a Halloween Dance from 9 pm to 1 am. Admission is $10 and there will be lots of great prizes.
There will be a Monster Ball on Friday, October 31 starting at 9:30 pm at the Rainbow Ridge Golf Course. There will be a live DJ and entertainment, as well as cash prizes for the best costume, scariest costume and more. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. There will also be makeup artists on site at 9 pm for anyone needing a last minute costume.
In Little Current, there will be a Halloween dance at the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre on Halloween from 8:30 pm to 1 am. Tickets are available at the hotel for $15 in advance or $20 at the door. There will be prizes for the best costumes and a live DJ.
Also in Little Current, the Anchor Inn Hotel will be having its annual party with free admission, cash prizes for the scariest and sexiest costume and will be open until 2 am.
In the West End, the Gore Bay Legion will be hosting a Halloween bash from 9 pm to 1 am. Cover will be by donation and there will be prizes for costumes.
The party doesn’t stop on Halloween, there will be dances as well on Saturday, November 1.
The Mindemoya Lions Club will be hosting a licenced Halloween dance. Tickets are $10 and available at Rylan’s Clothing in Mindemoya and from Matt Hallet, Jay Heins, Janice Abbott and Stacey Chisholm.
The M’Chigeeng Halloween dance will also be on Saturday night, starting at 9 am at the M’Chigeeng Community Complex (53 Hwy 551). Hosted by the M’Chigeeng Fire Department, fundraising for the 2015 Ontario Natives Fire Fighters Competition, there will be many prizes to be won and music from DJ Blake Debassige. Admission is $8 at the door or $6 if you sport a costume.
