MANITOULIN – The Manitoulin COVID-19 Leadership Co-ordination Committee met for its 15th session on Tuesday, October 6.
The committee heard from a representative Rainbow District School Board Director of Education Norm Blaseg who provided leaders with insight into the safe operation procedures of the newly re-opened schools. Leaders would like to thank the teachers for their hard work and encourage students to keep themselves motivated and positive until this pandemic is behind us.
The committee also welcomed health officials from Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) who spoke about the influenza vaccine becoming available to the public in Sudbury and Manitoulin Districts via health care providers and PHSD offices, including the office in Mindemoya. Appointments will be required. Participating pharmacies will also administer the influenza vaccine. Health care providers will be making arrangements to pick up their vaccine orders from PHSD after October 13. Pharmacies receive their vaccine directly from the manufacturer and public health has no control over these timelines. Leadership strongly encourages all to get their flu shot this coming year.
PHSD is aware that the public is anxious to hear information on being permitted to uphold Halloween traditions. PHSD will review the COVID-19 situation in the coming weeks and the committee will provide more information after the October 20 meeting.
As Thanksgiving approaches and with COVID-19 cases on the rise, Manitoulin leadership is encouraging all to be mindful that we still remain in a pandemic and to practice COVID-19 safety protocols this coming weekend. We wish everyone a safe and healthy Thanksgiving.
The committee will continue to meet biweekly. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 20.
