GORE BAY—The Manitoulin Lodge Nursing Home has won a prestigious award from Jarlette Health Services-Retirement Living and Long-Term Care.

Paulie Nodecker, RN and Director of Care of Manitoulin Lodge, told the Recorder last Friday, “we placed third in the Better Seniors Care Campaign-Excellence in Seniors Advocacy Work through Jarlette.”

The Jarlette Health Services website explained that their recent annual “Awards Night was the perfect venue to celebrate Canada and honour three retirement lodges and two long-term care homes for their excellent work ensuring that seniors living with us are getting the best services and value in supportive and independent accommodations.”

In the Better Seniors Care Campaign-Excellence in Seniors Advocacy Work, Manitoulin Lodge won the third place prize.

“Jarlette Health Services recognized some of it’s long-term care homes for their efforts to promote the Better Seniors Care Advocacy Campaign across Ontario. Because of the hard work done by the residents, family and staff at Manitoulin Lodge, a monetary donation of $100 was presented to the Resident Council at Manitoulin Lodge who, in turn, sent the money to support the Angel Bus. Other homes that went above and beyond were Elizabeth Centre in Sudbury and Meadow Park in Chatham,” the Jarlette release explained.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the local community of Gore Bay as well as others across Manitoulin Island who wrote a letter, sent an email or helped out with our campaign this year,” said Ms. Nodecker. “Having MPP Michael Mantha at our home was an amazing gesture and one way we were able to get our passionate message to Queen’s Park. Seniors care should always be a priority and top of mind throughout the year.”
