Manitoulin Health Centre receives infrastructure renewal funding

MANITOULIN—The Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) has received some good news in regards to funding towards replacing aging hospital infrastructure.

“This is very good news, because for five years we had received Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) funding from the North East Local Health Integrated Network (NELHIN), but last year we didn’t receive any funding through this program,” said Derek Graham, chief executive officer of the MHC, last Friday. “We are very pleased to get the funding this year, through the NELHIN.”

Mr. Graham confirmed the MHC has received $200,000 in HIRF funding. “This is money that hospitals get to upgrade their building infrastructure. The funding has to be spent on extending the useful life of the hospitals.”

“We are looking at some projects to replace aging building equipment,” said Mr. Graham. “The next step in the process is that we will have to put a list together of what needs replacing and then put this list forward for approval from the LHIN, followed by placing purchasing orders,” he added.
