Manitoulin Circle Project works dedication ceremony this Sunday

LITTLE CURRENT—After stops at The Thunder Bay Art Gallery and the Art Gallery of Sudbury, Judy Martin’s tapestries, which make up the installation ‘Mended World’ are back to their final home—the sanctuary of the Little Current United Church—and will be officially dedicated during this Sunday’s (July 20) service together with a Trinitarian-themed pulpit antependium.

‘Mended World’ was the brainchild of Bay Estates textile artist Judy Martin and the culmination of four years of work by over 140 pairs of hands as part of the Manitoulin Circle Project. The Circle Project met almost every Thursday in the church hall for four years, building friendships and relationships one stitch at a time. Over that time, the group created four pieces under the direction of Ms. Martin: ‘Layer of Time,’ ‘Earth Ark,’ ‘Mended World’ and ‘Precious Water.’ The pulpit hanging was Ms. Martin’s work. These panels will now hang as liturgical art in the church where they were created. Collectively, and in this space, they are known as meditation panels.

The Little Current United Church dedication service will take place this Sunday, July 20 at 10 am, followed by a reception in the church’s Assembly Hall.

The work is on view at the church this Friday, Saturday and Sunday as part of the Manitoulin Art Tour.
