Strategic plan

The Manitoulin Centennial Manor board carried a motion to adopt the Manor’s newly created strategic plan. The board also discussed how it will be reviewed annually.

Administrators report

Manor Administrator Michelle Bond presented the board with her August report. Ms. Bond informed the board that there are currently 24 people on the waiting list to get into the long-term care home. She also reported that Extendicare (the company that manages the home) will be changing the meal plan that will come into effect in October.

“We had a number of staff shortages over the summer due to illness and injury and had to fill the hours with agency staff,” said Ms. Bond. “On a separate note, I’m pleased to report that all the tubs have been replaced now. As well, three more rooms will be tiled (changed from carpet) before the end of the year leaving only two more rooms to be done on the bottom level and 14 upstairs. We have had no significant costs for maintenance last month, which is good.”

Board member Wendy Gauthier noted that she had observed that the last couple of weeks at the Manor had been busy, but that she wanted to commend the staff on how they handled everything.

Financial report

Extendicare Regional Director Keith Clement said that the Manor had had some good news from a financial perspective. He said that there had been a positive variance related to actual results from the arbitration with CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees). “We accrued too much for arbitration which resulted in a $47,000 surplus for July,” said Mr. Clement.

Fundraising

Ms. Gauthier told the board that the ‘Calling on You’ fundraising campaign for a new call bell system at the Manor had reached $80,355.02 of its $100,000 goal. “And I expect us to close the gap by Christmas,” said Ms. Gauthier.

She also noted that planning was underway for the Golden Gala Fundraiser for the Manor next year. “I need to know what our next target/project is,” said Ms. Gauthier. “It helps people give more easily if they know what the money is going towards.” She added that she will also need a wish item with a value of $10,000 for a raffle to be held at the gala.

Ms. Gauthier said that the ‘Tree of Lights’ campaign was underway for this year and that there is currently $2,000 in the account and that she expected the campaign to raise a total of $15,000 this year.

Call bell system

The Manor meeting concluded with a presentation from Joseph Norris of Cimtel and RNA Technology Inc. on call bell systems.
