The school year is quickly coming to a close with final projects and exams starting.

On Friday at lunch, Students’ Council held a End of Year Pep Rally in the gym. Students could have their faces painted on their way in then join in a friendly game of dodgeball. The bleachers were full of spectators cheering on the students playing. School spirit is uplifting in this stressful time of year.

On May 30-31, Bryce Mastelko, Mackenzie Turner and Jackie Cooper travelled to the University of Toronto for OFSAA Tennis. Bryce and Mackenzie played senior mixed doubles and Jackie played junior singles. The three competitors played their best against opponents who have year-round training facilities.

James Scott travelled to Windsor for OFSAA Track and Field on June 2-4. James competed in the Junior Men’s 1500m and 800m races. On Thursday, James ran the 1,500, placing 16th with a time of 4:16.41. On Saturday, James placed 16th in the 800. His finishing time was 2:02.13, only 3 seconds behind the gold medal winner. Congratulations James on finishing in the top 20 in the province.

Manitoulin Secondary School is hosting an e-waste recycling event on June 11 from 9 am to 3 pm to collect old and unused electronics to raise money for the SHARE/Go Green project in Kenya. The Ontario Electronic Stewardship Recovery Program allows the public to dispose of electronic waste free of charge and pays SHARE $186 for each tonne collected. All components of electronic waste can be recycled. Remember to wipe hard drives and remove SIM cards from all computers and cell phones. Items that can be dropped off include old phones, computers, laptops, printers, monitors, radios, cables and power tools. At the event there will also be a plant sale and household battery drive. E-waste drop-off will also be accepted from 3 to 5 pm June 13-17.

These year-end activities are creating a fun atmosphere before exams and culminatings. ‘Til next time, stay golden, Mustangs.
