LITTLE CURRENT—Curler Jordan Chandler of Manitoulin Island is part of a rink that has qualified for the provincial men’s curling championships. However, he pointed out that his rink qualifying for the provincials is a complicated affair.
“It’s kind of complicated,” acknowledged Mr. Chandler in an interview with the Recorder last week. “With the Brad Jacobs’ (Sault Ste. Marie) rink having won his event to qualify for the Olympic Winter Games, it means that they are going to the Olympics. They were one of the two teams, in fact they were first among the Ontario touring teams, that would have qualified for Northern Ontario based on the national point system.” It also means that Mr. Chandler’s rink is one of the two that will now be in the provincials (along with six other regional qualifiers to be determined).
Mr. Chandler is the vice on the Mike Jakubo-skipped rink, which also includes second Sandy McEwen, and lead Lee Toner. The rink represents the Sudbury Curling Club. His rink is second in Northern Ontario in the national point system. He explained, “we have played in four events this year in southern Ontario, winning one, reaching the semi-finals in one event and the quarter finals in the other events,” said Mr. Chandler. “We have a won/loss record of 23-4, which is very good considering the tough competition.”
The provincial playdowns will take place February 5-9.
