Gather with friends to practice an art skill, find a quiet corner to read, use your laptop or learn about some of the new technologies…you can do any of these at Little Current Public Library during the remaining weeks of the summer.

The big hit at the library of course is the Summer Art Display and Sale. The Art Committee managed to gather five stellar artists for this event: James Simon (Mishibinijima) has framed reproductions of his acclaimed aboriginal compositions on display at reasonable prices. Detlef Heiser, woodcraftsman from Sheguiandah, offers his rich collection of Shaker-style boxes. Madonna Aeschlimann has put her special touch on typical rural scenes of Manitoulin. Pastels and drawings by Kathy Dolan, and some new works by popular artist/photographer Lamar Hyatt are also available. Gail Meehan joins the show with 15 vibrant paintings, some completed in Florida over the past winter.

Wes Cline, “The Tech Guy,” is into his second Wednesday afternoon intermediate session for seniors wanting to improve their computer skills. Dorothy Atchison, board supervisor of the continuing ‘Art for Seniors’ program, has Pauline Tofflemire lined up for two watercolour workshops this month.

Library staff have recently catalogued and put out many new releases, fiction and nonfiction, for you to browse through. Summer student Hannah Boyer has enjoyed helping at the desk. “And it’s great to see all the young mom’s bringing their little ones in during the summer,” says Karen Gallo, staff member. “Judy Kift has always made the children’s section an attractive part of the library.”

Summer hours at the Town Library have made it convenient to visit this welcoming spot at 50 Meredith St. West. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 10 am to 8 pm; Fridays from noon to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. See you there!
