“A pleasure to be with from start to their departure”
EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a letter sent to Kathy Wachnuk, superintendent of schools for the Rainbow District School Board, from the curator of the South Baymouth Museum and Historical Society, Loretta Mucha, and has been reprinted here at the author’s request.
Dear Mrs. Wachnuk:
I write to you in my capacity as curator for the South Baymouth Museum and Historical Society.
I am a retired nurse and certainly am familiar with government goals, plans, and expected level of performance for our various ministries we are employed by, yours in education. (Our most precious commodity, our children).
Having said that, I wish to assure you the Rainbow District School Board is in good hands with your staff here on the Manitoulin Island and wish to explain my reasoning for this comment.
On Wednesday, June 21, we hosted and received 40 elementary students from your board at our community museum accompanied by your staff. Each student left with small hand crafted tokens made by our members in appreciation of their visit.
Having said that, Mrs. Wachnuk, please be assured your staff, your students were a walking billboard of “How to” in behavioral exemplars of elementary students.
Not only did the students come prepared to learn, they conducted themselves in a better manner than some adults do. A pleasure to be with from start to their departure.
In closing please, on behalf of our community, on behalf of our members, share our admiration and appreciation for “setting the mold,” if you will, of well-being and world class education of our future generation/citizens. What a great promise to our future. Please share with your staff.
