Letter: Old School decision disappoints

Thanks owed to repurposing committee

To the Expositor:

Well, it didn’t come as much of a surprise but that doesn’t lessen the disappointment and frustration. Several shortsighted councillors outvoted those with vision in a decision which effectively votes to get rid of the oldest public building in Mindemoya—the nearly 100-year-old school. The vote against keeping this historically significant building would seem to indicate that parking is more important than parkland, history and the ability for our community to remain vibrant and provide diverse experiences and opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

We owe a vote of thanks to the hardworking committee that tried to save this integral piece of our local story. It was a long, dirty battle, so thank you for trying. Thank you for your dedication to our community.

To the councillors who showed such a lack of vision: I am ashamed to say I voted for you. Shame on you for not doing more for your community’s future. This was your opportunity to give our community hope and new opportunities while honouring and preserving its past.

Parking, I am sure will be a community hub in place of the old school and something many future generations will feel a sense of pride about, will celebrate…
