Employee charged with assault offences
On Friday, June 6 at 4:17 pm an altercation took place between two employees at a business located in Little Current. Members of the OPP were called and as a result of an investigation an employee was charged with offences.
Charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats is a 53-year-old man of Assiginack Township. He was released from custody and will be appearing in Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay to answer to said charges.
Manitoulin prom party a quiet affair
On Friday, June 6 Manitoulin OPP officers responded to a call in relation to an assault complaint at the bush prom party. The annual prom bush party took place on Columbus Mountain Road in the Northeast Town. As a result a 16-year-old youth has been charged with assault. Police patrolled the area throughout the night and were pleased to report the rest of the evening was quiet with no other incidents to report.
Male charged in ATV thefts
On Sunday, June 8 at 8:16 am Manitoulin OPP officers were called to a residence in Gordon Township. The owner returned to his property to find that two four-wheel ATVs had been stolen and a tractor had been tampered with. As a result of this investigation police were able to recover the ATVs and a male was arrested in relation to these thefts.
Charged with three counts of theft over $5,000 is a 21-year-old male of West Nipissing. He was released from custody and will be appearing in Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay to answer to the said charges.
Motor vehicle collision results in multiple charges
On Sunday, June 8 at 7:10 pm Manitoulin OPP responded to a vehicle rollover which occurred on the Greenbush Road in Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands Township. A witness report advised that five people were in a 2007 Black Buick vehicle when it left the road and flipped over. All five exited the vehicle and left the scene in another passing vehicle. That vehicle was intercepted by police. The driver was identified and as a result of the investigation the driver has been charged with numerous offences.
Charged with failing to remain at the scene, failing to report, failing to give required information, fail to report property damage and careless driving, all under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, is a 51-year-old male of Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation.
Disturbance leads to arrest in Sheguiandah
During the early morning hours of June 7, UCCM Anishnaabe Police were called to a report of a man causing a disturbance on the Sheguiandah First Nation. The man allegedly became combative with residents at a house party and fled the scene once police were called. The man identified was a 27-year-old of the Whitefish River First Nation and was located by police at a nearby residence and arrested for failing to comply with recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code. He was scheduled to appear in Gore Bay Bail Court on June 9.
M’Chigeeng man arrested for breaching recognizance
During the evening hours of June 8, UCCM Police received a report that a 40-year-old M’Chigeeng man was reportedly violating his recognizance conditions. UCCM Police confirmed the report with a witness and subsequently arrested the male with one count of breach of recognizance contrary to Section 145(3) Criminal Code.
He was scheduled to appear in Gore Bay Bail Court June 9.
Thefts reported in Aundeck Omni Kaning
During the early morning hours of June 8, UCCM Police were called to reports of vehicles being broken into on the Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation.
Multiple vehicles were entered and in one vehicle culprits stole a woman’s purse containing identification. A witness describes seeing two young men, approximately 18 years of age, with one male wearing a white and black striped golf shirt and blue jeans and the second wearing a grey hoodie with the word ‘dope’ on the front and sporting a backpack and bandana.
Police are reminding the public not to leave valuables in their vehicles and to make sure to lock their parked vehicles.
Police gathered evidence from the scenes but are seeking the public’s assistance.
