BUFFALO, NY—Wiikwemkoong’s own Kelly Babstock, a two-time National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) All-Star, has been signed to the NWHL’s Buffalo Beauts.

According to the NWHL website, the 26-year-old Ms. Babstock joins the Beauts after totaling 50 points in 49 regular-season games during the last three seasons with the Connecticut Whale, adding four goals in five Isobel Cup Playoff games.

“I am excited to have this opportunity to play for the Buffalo Beauts in such a great city,” Ms. Babstock told the NWHL. “Next season is going to be a great one and I am excited to contribute to this organization. The fan base has always been passionate and I am excited to play in front of a great crowd.”

Ms. Babstock led all NWHL skaters in the 2017-19 season with 71 shots on goal and tied for the Whale’s team lead with four goals in 14 games, ranking second among all Connecticut skaters with nine points, according to the NWHL.

Before signing with the NWHL in 2015-16, Ms. Babstock scored 203 points in 147 games at Quinnipiac University (ECAC), “finishing her collegiate career as the Bobcats’ single-game and career leader in every offensive category,” the NWHL states. “Her 59-point freshman season earned her the 2011 ECAC Player of the Year and ECAC Rookie of the Year awards.” Ms. Babstock was also unanimously named Quinnipiac University’s Female Athlete of the Year.

Ms. Babstock’s mom Donna is incredibly proud of her daughter, as well as her talented son Jeff Shattler, 33, who just led the Saskatchewan Rush lacrosse team to claim another National Lacrosse League championship. He was also named league MVP for his efforts.
