Joseph Donald Williamson passed away peacefully on December 26, 2017 in his 82nd year. He is survived by his wife Amy Williamson (Smith) and his sister Helen Harris (Richard). Joe was predeceased by his sisters Doris Ray (Fred), Mildred Leslie (Bill), and his brothers Albert Williamson, Robert Williamson (Irene) and Jim Williamson (Eleanor). Joe was a loving husband to Amy and continued to care for her as she fought her battle with dementia. He proudly served in the Canadian Military for 32 years and, after retiring from the military, he was an active member in the Little Current Legion, Channel View Seniors, the Anglican Church, and the Centennial Manor Auxiliary. He walked quietly through life with dignity, and he was a blessing to all. Family and friends gathered at the Island Funeral Home on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11 am to celebrate his life. Pastor Paul Allard officiated. Joe was a strong believer in helping people, and donations in his memory will be gratefully accepted by the Manitoulin Centennial Manor Auxiliary, the United Church or the Anglican Church.
In the spring of life we learn of joy, and wonder at each day. We run and shout and sing and dance along life’s merry way. And God revels in our joy, and walks beside us on the trail Teaching us life’s lessons, as on our strength we try and fail. In the summer of life we learn of pain and work and toil and strife. We labour through the dark of night and work consumes our life. And in the quiet hours, when we fall exhausted into sleep God’s Angel lays beside us for his little child to keep. In the autumn of life we learn that time’s a gift we’re meant to share. We learn to savour moments and let people know we care, And we learn to trust God’s wisdom, and finally we see That it’s only through His power that we truly are what we should be. In winter strength succumbs to the constant ticking of the clock As we seek to share our gifts with those who will take the time to talk. And God sees us as his Angels charged to share his word alone Until he gathers us in glory and he calls his Angels home. You have lived through many seasons and have known both joy and pain. You are now wrapped God’s in great glory and you sing the heavenly refrain. You walked among the mortals and through the gifts you’ve shared. We know that God sends Angels here to keep us in his care.
