KAGAWONG––Both Billings and the Northeast Town are hosting Earth Day celebrations this Saturday, April 22.
In Billings, the day begins at 10 am with a “fairweather clean up.” Members of the community are invited to meet at the Kagawong Park Centre to pitch in and clean up our trails and roadsides. It is recommended to wear gloves. Bags will be provided. (Rain date Sunday, May 7.)
Three featured speakers will provide information during “Green Talks” starting at 1 pm (also at the Park Centre). Topics include ‘Community Owned Renewable Energy,’ ‘The Social Economy and Green Solutions’ and ‘Community Energy Planning: A Tool for Change.’
“Come, listen and share ideas with our panel of experts Arik Theijsmeijer, Maureen Strickland and Emily Cormier,” encouraged committee chair and Billings councillor Barbara Erskine.
Throughout the afternoon those attending can enjoy a dessert social with coffee, tea and decadent cakes for sale.
In Little Current, people are asked to help with an Earth Day cleanup from 11 am to 1 pm along the waterfront trail from the Manitoulin Tourism Association to Low Island Park. Following the cleanup, a barbecue at the Rendezvous Pavilion (located near Kool-It Ice) will be had for all the helping hands. The municipality reminds youth that the cleanup is a great way to gain some volunteer hours.
