Investigation leads to drug charge

KIRKLAND LAKE – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau Drug Enforcement Unit along with the assistance of a North East Region Emergency Response Team have charged a local man with several offences. The charges stem from the investigation of illegal drug related activities in the Kirkland Lake area. It culminated with the execution of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence located on Hughes Avenue in Chaput Hughes, Ontario.

Seized as a result of the search were marihuana, unmarked cigarettes, money and drug paraphernalia. The estimated street value of the drug and unmarked cigarettes seized is approximately $19,850. The incident occurred at approximately 1:35 p.m. on March 18, 2014.

Charged is James TINNEY age 55 of Chaput Hughes with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes for the Purpose of Sale and Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on April 10, 2014.
